NIJC's Crim-Imm Technical Assistance (TA) resource is intended to help immigration legal service providers in the Illinois Access to Justice Network better understand criminal grounds of removability, including assessing a client’s eligibility for immigration benefits, relief from removal and risk of deportation based on crimes. The goal of these consultations is to build capacity among immigration legal service providers in the Illinois Access to Justice Network to represent clients with prior contacts with the criminal legal system. These TA office hours are staffed by supervisors in NIJC’s Detention Team with more than 10 years of crim-imm expertise. This resource is funded by a capacity-building grant from the Illinois Access to Justice program.
