NIJC and the Detention Watch Network have produced two toolkits to help advocates and communities hold U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement accountable for the humane treatment of immigrants in detention:
ICE Death Watch: An Advocacy & Organizing Toolkit provides community organizers, advocates, and other stakeholders with tools to hold ICE and its contractors responsible for the deaths that happen on their watch. ICE currently provides the names of individuals who die in custody; however, few details are provided regarding the circumstances of these deaths and whether detention facility conditions played a role. Each death in ICE custody is accompanied by an internal investigation, but these investigations are very rarely released publicly.
Using ICE Contracts & Inspections to End Abusive Detention: An Advocacy and Organizing Toolkit helps communities use ICE contracts and inspection reports to advocate to end costly and inhumane immigration detention.
